Following a fire incident at Toi Markets, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja had to visit the area and console the traders. Upon arriving at the venue, he was first welcomed and nobody could tell that the residents and traders were unhappy with his presence.
Not long before residents began murmuring and shouting at the Nairobi Governor, voicing their grievances and displeasure with his leadership.
In a video that went viral on X, Sakaja was seen surrounded by his bodyguards who formed a protective shield around as stones flew in the air. According to reports, four people died while the traders were left counting losses.
Since the crowd was getting out of hand, the security team had to fire in the air to disperse the angry Kenyans. In an interview by Citizen TV, some of the affected traders expressed anger at him saying they want repairs done at the market once and for all.
Some residents blamed the governor for the slow response of the county fire team, stating that the fire could have been contained earlier and lives could have been saved.
Among other leaders who visited the place are Kibera Member of Parliament Peter Orero and Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino.
In addition, the county boss assured the people that he would support traders, and families affected by the Toi Market fir.
