Amaka Ubaka is an American award-winning journalist who presently anchors 7NEWS Today in New England and 7NEWS at Noon since May 2016.

Amaka, an American-Nigerian, got her name from one of the numerous languages spoken in the most populous country in Africa. It means “beautiful.”

Upon arriving in Boston, she worked as a reporter in Orlando, Florida where she covered many stories that received national attention: a mother of three accused of driving her kids into the Atlantic, the ISIS beheading of former UCF student/journalist Steven Sotloff, and a man swallowed up by a sinkhole while sleeping in his home.

Amaka also worked as a reporter in Omaha, Nebraska and landed her first on-air job in Redding, California. When she is not behind the news desk, Ubaka enjoys meeting new people, learning their stories and being involved in the community.

The majority of her leisure time is dedicated to emceeing charitable events, including as those hosted by the Igbo Organization of New England, Rosie’s Place, BMA TenPoint, International Institute of New England, YWCA Cambridge, Project Hope, and The One Mission Buzz Off.The National Association of Black Journalists is another organization she belongs to.
