“After high school, Amira became pregnant, which led to some family arguments because my parents first opposed my decision to marry Amira, but I eventually convinced them otherwise.
“We welcomed Shamir, my firstborn, at that time. I was going to study aviation, but I used the money to start working in the matatu business, first as a tout and then eventually purchasing a matatu, the man stated. After five years, according to Jamal, they broke up, leaving him to raise the children while juggling the responsibilities of the matatu business.
He said that Amira had been gone for six years during which time he had asked his mother to help him with childcare because of his hectic schedule.

Talking about his career, his career began after he was given a sum of four hundred thousand by his mum as a fee for his piloting classes. Due to his fear of heights, he decided to invest in the matatu industry.
After he completed high school level, he decided to buy an old matatu which he employed youths and at the same time worked as a tout for another person.
His first matatu was KXL which he employed people despite his mother wanting him to be a pilot. It was easy for him to do all this because his mom used to go farming in Kajiado thus lacking someone who could monitor his moves.
The matatu ( KXL ) that was bought was operating along the South B route. According to an interview that he did at Jalango TV, Jamal revealed that his nickname ‘Roho Safi’ was given to him because he had employed people to work for him and at the same time worked for another person.
After two years working as a tout, Jamal saw that it was now the right time to move to the next level and was now working as a driver operating along Rongai in a matatu called Exile which was a 33-seater.
He worked with the same matatu for a period of two years and because he was disciplined, he was favored mostly and he was the one being given every new matatu that was fresh in the industry.
Due to his hard work, The Saccos saw it good to elect him chairman of the matatu association, a position he has now held for four years. He has two more years before his term ends.
