Lester Holt born ( Lester Don Holt Jr. ) is an American journalist and news anchor for the weekday edition of NBC Nightly News and Dateline NBC. Holt was made the permanent anchor of the NBC Nightly News following the demotion of Brian Williams on 18th, June 2015.

He was employed as a reporter with WCBS-TV in New York City in 1981. He joined KNXT in Los Angeles as a reporter and weekend anchor in 1982, and the following year he moved back to WCBS-TV in the same capacity. Holt relocated to WBBM-TV in Chicago in 1986 and anchored the nightly news there for 14 years.
In addition to working at the anchor desk, Holt spent a lot of time reporting from unstable regions throughout the globe, including as Iraq, Northern Ireland, Somalia, El Salvador, and Haiti.
Holt joined MSNBC in 2000 . He took on full-time responsibilities at NBC News in 2003, where he worked as a fill-in anchor for Today and NBC Nightly News. After the passing of former co-anchor David Bloom, Holt joined Weekend Today as a full-time co-anchor.
He also served as the host of a two-hour daily newscast on MSNBC until late 2005. Before taking over for Brian Williams as the regular anchor of the weekday version, Holt was named the NBC Nightly News weekend anchor on May 9, 2007, and he anchored the program for eight years.
In addition to his usual duties at NBC News, he also hosted a program about 9/11 conspiracies for The History Channel, covered the 2008 Summer Olympics for NBC Sports, and is the anchor of Dateline on ID, a version of Dateline NBC that airs on the Investigation Discovery network. He provided the narration for a Sci-Fi Channel program about authentic crystal skulls in 2008.
