Larry Madowo is a Kenyan award-winning journalist who presently works as the news Correspondent and host of the African Voices Changemakers and Playmakers series at CNN International.
He began his journalism career as a Trainee Reporter at KTN and then as a Business Ancho. He then joined NTV Kenya where he worked twice, he later anchored and reported business and financial news at CNBC Africa before returning to NTV.
In March 2018, Larry resigned from NTV and joined BBC News Africa where he worked as Business Editor.From August 2014 to June 2016, he hosted The Larry Madowo Show on Nation FM and wrote a weekly column called #FrontRow in the Daily Nation from August 5, 2014, to February 8, 2018.
The news about Larry joining BBC News Africa was announced on 11 April 2018. As a result of his hard work, he was among those selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in March 2020. On June 2020, he was nominated as a One Young World Journalist of the Year. New African magazine has named him among the 100 Most Influential Africans twice.
In 2020, Madowo was listed as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine. In December 2020, he made history as the first black individual to present the Peter Stursberg Foreign Correspondents Lecture at Carleton University in Canada.
Larry was was appointed as CNN’s Nairobi correspondent in May 2021 and In July 2021, CNN elevated him to the position of international correspondent, two months after his initial promotion.
