Joyce DeWitt born ( Joyce Anne DeWitt ) is an American actress and comedian best known for playing Janet Wood on the ABC sitcom Three’s Company from 1977 to 1984.

The sitcom Three’s Company ran from 1977 to 1984, and DeWitt’s most well-known part was as Janet Wood, which she landed after being cast in the second pilot. In a 1979 episode of the spinoff series The Ropers, she also portrayed Janet.

After Three’s Company ended in 1984, Joyce appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves 1984, after which she quit acting for several years. In June 1991, Dewitt resumed acting with a part in a production of Noises Off at Michigan’s Cherry County Playhouse.

She also made appearances in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! A character based on her, voiced by another actress, appeared in a 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain.

The 2003 NBC-TV television movie Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three’s Company was co-produced by DeWitt, who also served as its host. Melanie Paxson portrays DeWitt in the movie.

She starred in the independent film Failing Better Now in 2008.DeWitt played the lead role in a Married Alive stage production in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 2009.
