He grew up at a time when whites and blacks didn’t live harmoniously. Blacks were discriminated against and segregated. There were schools, hospitals, and other social amenities for blacks and whites, everything was divided down the middle. Black students could not get down the lunch counter to buy food, they could not go down the park, they had to go to segregated theatres, this tore Martin Luther in the veins as he explains in his autobiography.

From a young age, Martin Luther used to participate in oratory contests, this is where he perfected his oratory skills in public speaking. It is during these endeavors that he met Coretta Scott.

Martin left a rich legacy behind when he influenced movements around the world, this made him an icon of liberalization. When he was asked what he wanted to be remembered for, He said”, I’d like someone to mention that day when Martin tried to give his life serving others. I’d like someone to say that day I tried to love someone. I want you to say that day that I did try to feed the hungry. I want you to be able to say that day that I did try to clothe somebody who is naked.

I want you to say that day that I tried to visit somebody who is in prison. And I want you to say that day that I tried to love and serve humanity. Yes if you want to say that I’m a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all other shallow things won’t matter. I won’t have any money to leave behind, I won’t have fine and luxurious things of life to leave behind. But I just want to leave a committed life behind.”
