According to the Harris County district attorney, former NFL tight end Kevin Ware was charged with murder and witness tampering in the death of his girlfriend in Texas last year. District Attorney Kim Ogg announced in a statement that Ware, 41, who played for Washington and San Francisco, was charged on Thursday by a grand jury.

According to the district attorney’s office, Kevin Ware Jr. was charged Thursday morning by a Harris County grand jury, more than a year after 29-year-old Taylor Pomaski vanished. The DA’s office announced that Ware has been charged with murder and tampering with a corpse in connection with Pomaski’s disappearance and passing.

Ware accepted responsibility for a misdemeanor assault in 2002 while attending the University of Washington and was given a suspended sentence. He was charged in two different cases in Houston in 2010 with stealing and escaping arrest following an assault. For the first-degree felony offense of intending to produce or deliver a prohibited substance, Ware received a two-year jail term in December 2018.

Ware was pulled over for speeding in Magnolia, Texas, on April 19, 2021. A loaded AK-47 and a loaded 9mm pistol were discovered along with cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and a Xanax pill when his automobile was inspected. In Texas, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon is a third-degree felony. After being arrested and facing charges of two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, Ware was released from jail the next day after posting a $23,000 bond.

On June 11, 2021, Ware was taken into custody in Spring, Texas for disregarding the terms of his bail. His girlfriend Taylor Pomaski, 29, was missing at the time. She had last been seen during a party at their shared Spring home on April 25, where neighbors claimed the two had gotten into a violent argument.
