Since the launch of Starlink in Kenya, the company has benefitted a lot in terms of users and even online trends. According to reports, Starlink, a satellite internet owned by American aerospace company SpaceX was first launched in Kenya in July 2023.
Since its launch, the company had only 405 subscribers but after two months the number grew to 1,354. The number did not stop growing as over 4800 users subscribed to the internet.
In a recent wave of online speculation, rumors began circulating that Safaricom had pulled the plug on allowing payments for Starlink’s satellite internet service via their popular mobile money platform, M-Pesa. The gossip mill was buzzing with claims that the partnership had soured, leaving Starlink customers in the lurch.
But Safaricom quickly shut down those rumors. The telco issued a statement denying the claims and clarified that payments for Starlink services through M-Pesa are still active. According to sources, the partnership between Safaricom and Starlink is stronger than ever and there’s no truth to the rumors.
So, for now, Starlink users in Kenya can breathe easy knowing that their internet payments are still just a tap away on M-Pesa. As for the rumor starters, it looks like they’ll have to find something else to gossip about!
