David Charns is an American journalist who joined the 8 News Now Investigators in October 2020 from WMTW in Portland, Maine, where he was the morning anchor.

He has received praise for reporting on significant subjects, such as errors made in the wake of a fatal collision involving a drunk driver who killed several cyclists and the false claims surrounding the 2020 election.

Two regional Emmy Awards for investigative journalism and journalistic enterprise were given to David for his reporting on these subjects. In addition, Charns received an Edward R. Murrow Award for breaking news reporting and anchored an Emmy-winning newscast. David was recognized as one of Nexstar Media Group’s digital content influencers while working at 8 News Now.

He was also nominated by the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Association of Television Arts & Sciences for reporting on the national drug epidemic and sexual abuse allegations involving two retired police officers.
