Bryan Norcross Biography
Jim Rosenfield is an American meteorologist who currently serves as a FOX Weather contributor and hurricane specialist. He joined FOX Weather in March 2022.
With a career spanning more than five decades, Norcross got his start covering hurricanes in 1969 when Hurricane Camille impacted the Gulf Coast.
When CNN originally debuted in 1980, he went on to become the first weekend weathercaster. He spent 25 years in Miami as a meteorologist for WPLG, WTVJ (NBC), and WFOR after stints at numerous stations throughout the country (CBS).
He worked as a hurricane analyst for CBS News from 1996 to 2008 before becoming the president and CEO of America’s Disaster Network, an emergency management communications firm.

Books
Norcross wrote Hurricane Almanac 2006 – The Essential Guide to Storms Past, Present, and Future, as well as Hurricane Almanac 2007, a follow-up version with 80 pages of updates and new content.
The book includes a significant part on storm protection called “Living Successfully in the Hurricane Zone,” which covers hurricane history and science. In addition, a section titled “How I’d Do It Better” contains Bryan’s thoughts on and suggestions for improving various parts of the government’s storm response system.
Bryan’s updates to the book, extra information, a purchasing area for hurricane supplies, and the option for others to submit their updates were all added to HurricaneAlmanac.com in July 2006. Norcross self-published his Hurricane Andrew story, “My Hurricane Andrew Story,” in May 2017.
Fox News Channel Career
He began his career at The Weather Channel in 2010 as a senior storm specialist, rising through the ranks to Executive Director of Weather Content and Presentation until departing in 2018. He came to FOX Weather from ABC affiliate WPLG-TV in Miami, where he worked as a hurricane expert.
In 2019, he was honored by the National Storm Conference with the Neil Frank Award, which is the greatest accolade in the hurricane community.
Norcross was the first to warn of the impending devastation of Hurricane Andrew, which would grow into a deadly Category 5 hurricane in south Florida, in 1992. His work garnered him multiple prizes, including an Emmy Award from the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, as well as DuPont and Peabody awards for his coverage, which included 23 hours of live on-air reporting as the hurricane neared landfall. He also received the David Brinkley Award for Excellence in Communication in 1993.
Norcross was also named an expert to the Academic Task Force on Hurricane Catastrophe Insurance by Florida Treasurer Bill Nelson and was tasked by then-Florida Governor Lawton Chiles as a member of the committee to evaluate state response by then-Florida Governor Lawton Chiles to advise on changes to the state emergency management system.
Norcross’ coverage of Superstorm Sandy in 2012 gave the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Hurricane Center important warnings about the storm’s size. He was asked to speak before the New York City Council about the threat assessments and messaging protocols before the storm.
